HILLSBOROUGH: Free seedlings to offset storm damage

Cleanup permits for township dump area available now

It’s time to clean up and green up.
”On the first day of the town clean-up, which will be April 5, the first 200 residents who visit the Auten Road facility will receive five seedlings to plant on their property as a replacement for any trees lost during Superstorm Sandy,” said Mayor Doug Tomson.
The township is partnering with the New Jersey Recover Campaign in the tree effort, said the mayor.
The township has revised the cleanup program based on suggestions from residents and will offer three Saturdays in April and May — in time for spring cleaning.
Coupons, which are required for drop-off at the Auten Road facility, will be issued for April 5, 12, 26 and May 3, 17 and 31. In June through September, coupons will be offered for the first and last Saturdays of the month.
Coupons are available at the Department of Public Works (DPW) office at 21 East Mountain Road, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are distributed first come, first serve.
This program is for Hillsborough residents only and proof of residency is required. The drop-off site is open rain or shine.
The purpose of the clean-up program is to allow residents the opportunity to dispose of old furniture, toys, rugs, appliances, bicycles, yard debris, etc. Electronics and hazardous materials are not accepted.
