HOPEWELL VALLEY: Police blotter

   Hopewell Township police Lt. Christopher Kascik reported:
   — Bear Tavern Road (CR 579) Resurfacing Project — Beginning on or after April 7, Mercer County will begin resurfacing improvements to Bear Tavern Road between Pennington-Harbourton Road and Pleasant Valley-Harbourton Road.
   Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday), the road will be closed to all traffic.
   Northbound detour from Pennington-Harbourton Road: Make left onto Pleasant Valley Road; make right onto Pleasant Valley-Harbourton Road; make left onto Bear Tavern Road. End detour.
   Southbound detour from Pleasant Valley-Harbourton Road: Make right onto Pleasant Valley-Harbourton Road; make left onto Pleasant Valley Road; make right onto Bear Tavern Road. End detour.
   — On March 22 at 7:35 a.m., Officer John Ferner saw a blue Mazda going east on Broad Street at 51 mph in the 30-mph zone. He stopped the vehicle. The driver initially gave the officer a false name, but during the investigation, the officer was able to identify the driver as Hazim A. Evans, 23, of Hamilton Street, Somerville.
   A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed that Mr., Evans was in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with hindering apprehension for providing a false name to the officer, possession of marijuana, driving while suspended, speeding, failure to possession a valid registration card, reckless driving, having tinted windows, failure to inspect his vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
   A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Sabrea N. Cruz, 18, of Second Street, Somerville, also was arrested at the scene. She was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of ecstasy. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and released. Her case will be forwarded to the Mercer County prosecutor’s office.
   — On March 29 at 1:10 a.m., Officer Robert Voorhees stopped a gray Jeep on South Main Street for a motor vehicle violation.
   While speaking with the driver, identified as Denise M. Mariani, 46, of Featherbed Lane, Hopewell Township, the officer smelled the odor of alcohol on her breath and person.
   After performing field sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and impaired. She was transported to police headquarters and cited for DWI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. She was processed and released. Her case will be heard in Municipal Court.
