Contests shaping up in Millstone and Allentown

Although Election Day remains roughly seven months away, local candidate fields have begun to develop.
In the Borough of Allentown where two three-year full terms on the council will be on the November ballot, Council President Michael Schumacher, a Republican, and Democratic Councilwoman Angela Anthony have filed petitions with the municipal clerk’s office to run in the June 3 primary ahead of the general election.
Also filing was Eileen Joan Kuzma, a Republican.
Council President Schumacher is seeking his eighth term on council, having been re-elected most recently in 2011, while Councilwoman Anthony, a local realtor, is seeking her second term.
In 2011, initial election results had Ms. Anthony defeating Republican Don Swaysland by a single vote, though the final margin would increase to three, according to archives.
At the time of her election, Councilwoman Anthony was the sole Democrat on the council. In last year’s election, Republican incumbents Jean Hunter and Audrey Mount were defeated by Independent candidate Madeline Gavin and Democratic candidate Robert Schmitt.
Also serving on the Borough Council is Councilman Daniel Wimer and Councilwoman Margaret Rose, both Republicans.
Millstone Deputy Mayor Michael Kuczinski and Committeeman Fiore Masci, both Republicans whose terms expire at the end of this year, have filed petitions for the primary, according to the Maria Dellasala, Millstone municipal clerk.
In addition, according to Ms. Dellasala, Democrats Raymond Dothard and Brian Dorf have also filed.
In Upper Freehold Township, Municipal Clerk Dana L. Tyler told the Messenger Press the only petition she’s received is from Deputy Mayor RobertFrascella.
In Plumsted Township Committeeman Mike Wysong filed a petition to run again, as his term is up at the end of the year. He was only one to file, according to Dorothy Hendrickson, township clerk.
There are no council seats up for grabs in Robbinsville this fall, as Council President Sheree S. McGowan and Council Vice President Vincent J. Calcagno were re-elected last fall along with Mayor David Fried. Terms for Councilmen Ron Witt and David Boyne, along with Councilwoman Christine Ciaccio, will expire next year, according to the township website.
