PLUMSTED — The annual New Egypt Day has been scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event promises to have plenty of great things to do for folks of all ages.
New Egypt Day festivities will be split between Oakford Lake Park and the Presbyterian Church grounds on Front Street. A scenic pedestrian bridge over the lake links the two sites. Main Street New Egypt and Plumsted Township sponsor the event. The Plumsted Business and Merchants Association also co-sponsors the event.
Kid activities include face painting, pony rides, inflatables, petting zoo and a tractor pulled wagon. In addition, great food, music and lots of vendors will be on hand that day.
This program is also made possible in part by a grant administered by the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
Admission is free. A $6 per child wristband ($5 if purchased prior to the event) is required for unlimited access to kid’s activities listed above and is available through the NEPS/WES PTO.
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Ocean County Department of Solid Waste will also be conducting a free paper-shredding event as part of New Egypt Day.
Free shredding will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be located near the Oakford Lake Pedestrian Bridge at the intersection of Lakeview Drive and Oakford Avenue.
Plumsted Township and Ocean County residents will be able to dispose of old documents and confidential papers in a safe way. The program has a twofold effect: by shredding personal papers and documents, residents are reducing the potential for identity theft and the County is continuing its efforts to remove recyclables from the waste streams. The shredded paper is then recycled. One thousand pounds of recycled paper is the equivalent of 17 fully-grown trees.
The guidelines for participating are to remove all large binder clips from unwanted material, and each resident is limited to shredding six boxes or bags of paper per household. Staples and paper clips do not have to be removed from the unwanted material.
No x-rays, CDs, floppy disks, micro film, file folders and no business or commercial paper waste will be accepted. Residents must have identification clearly showing their residence in Plumsted Township or Ocean County.
Depending on the demand for service, the six box or bag limit for each resident will be enforced. When the truck is filled to capacity, the service will stop.
