PLUMSTED — Officer Jason Reilly, a 10-year veteran of the Plumsted Police Department, was promoted to corporal at the April 2 meeting of the Township Committee.
Cpl. Reilly wears many hats for the department, said Police Chief Matt Petrecca. The corporal serves as internal affairs officer, evidence officer and field training coordinator, and now also serves as the supervisor of the criminal investigation bureau.
He replaces Cpl. Robert Zach, who retired Feb. 2 after serving the township police department for 20 years.
”(Reilly) is a dedicated officer,” Chief Petrecca said. “He’s highly respected by the officers. He has great leadership qualities. He’s got integrity.”
Cpl. Reilly worked in Seaside Heights for two summers and Lakehurst for one year before coming to Plumsted. He and his wife Ashley have a son and a daughter and live in Manchester.
”I’m proud to be part of the department, very grateful to have the opportunity to serve as corporal with such a great group of men and women,” he said.
Assemblyman Ron Dancer, who is also the township volunteer business administrator, swore in Cpl. Reilly.
”I consider Jason a friend,” Mayor Dave Leutwyler said after Cpl. Reilly was sworn in. “He’s been a great asset to the town. You don’t know how many calls I’ve gotten from the chief, saying ‘We’ve got to get this promotion done.’”
He said to the corporal, “You’re already a leader. Now it’s official.”
Chief Petrecca spoke of Cpl. Reilly’s quiet but respected presence in the police office. “We call him the silent giant at work,” he said.
”These promotions don’t just happen,” said Sabate Russo, of Brynmore Road. “They work hard … and I personally want to thank you for the work you do and I’m very proud of you.”
