Public hearings and final action on several proposed ordinances top Township Council’s agenda, when it meets Wednesday — not the customary Tuesday — at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.
Township Council moved its meeting day from Tuesday to Wednesday next week, because of the Passover holiday. The second day of the eight-day holiday falls on Tuesday, which is also the night of the second seder of the Jewish holiday.
The council is expected to hold a public hearing on a $546,000 bond ordinance that would authorize issuing debt to pay for the construction of a new salt dome — to store road salt — at the township Department of Public Works on Bakers Basin Road. It would replace an existing salt dome that has been deemed too small.
Also on the agenda is a $100,000 bond ordinance that would authorize issuing debt to pay for the repair of sections of various roads throughout Lawrence Township. The roads were damaged by the harsh winter freeze-thaw cycle. The council will take action following a public hearing on the proposed ordinance.
And the council will take action on an ordinance that bans “aggressive panhandling,” following a public hearing on the proposed ordinance. Aggressive panhandling usually includes approaching or following pedestrians, the use of abusive language, unwanted physical contact or the intentional blocking of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The ordinance bans panhandling in an aggressive manner in any public place, including supermarkets, malls, retail stores, restaurants, and bars, as well as on buses and at bus stops. It is banned in parking lots and parking garages, and within any roadway intersection.
Township Council also will take action on an assortment of resolutions.
