To the editor:
I am appalled that five years after Monmouth County began work on a new bridge, the work is still not complete and Allentown citizens who sacrificed their own comfort during that time to permit the county to utilize their property in an effort to build the bridge without cutting the town off from itself have not been made whole.
I am specifically speaking of the Wikoffs whose family home sits at the northeastern shore of the lake and bridge. They have been most affected by this travesty. Anyone passing by can see the shambles that has become of their once beautifully landscaped property. Not only did they have to put up with years of bridge construction, which by the way dumped tons of stone into our lake, some of which has never been removed; but they also had to endure a flood of dirty water in their homes during Hurricane Irene.
Many of us sat through a meeting at the First Aid Squad with Borough Council and the representatives of the county where many promises were made by the county as to how this job would be completed satisfactorily.
I urge every Allentown resident and business owner to hold Monmouth County accountable for restoring the Wikoff property to its original beauty now and complete any other unfinished work at this project.
