Mayor Janice Mironov recently celebrated the importance of libraries in honor of the town’s National Library Week from April 13th -19th.

EAST WINDSOR — Mayor Janice Mironov recently celebrated the importance of libraries in honor of the town’s National Library Week from April 13 -19.
”Libraries have been a valuable place for many people,” said Mayor Mironov who added the libraries theme is "Community Matters."
”They have been a focal point for local communities, and on a national level as well,” she said.
Two East Windsor branches recognized were the Hickory Corner Branch and Twin Rivers.
Mayor Mironov thanked the three women in town responsible for taking care of each facility.
The mayor presented a proclamation certificate for National Library Week to Phyllis Anker who is the representative to the Mercer County Commission and the township representative.
Mayor Mironov also presented the certificate to Rebecca Sloan, who is the Manager of the Twin River Branch Library in East Windsor and Sharon Ryder is the Branch Manger for Hickory Corner Branch Library in Hightstown.
The proclamation stated, “our public libraries safeguard the right of Americans to free access to read, learn and connect to information on all subjects and representing all points of view, serving as a cornerstone of our democracy.”
The proclamation continues, “librarians provide the essential guidance and support needed by children, teenagers and adults alike in their search for knowledge and information, as well as their pursuit of a vocational and leisure interests.”
Mayor Mironov said libraries are important because they allow people of all ages to meet there.
Students are able to participate in various programs, including computer-related activities in each building.
”The mayor really has been such an advocate,” says Ms. Ryder who thanked the mayor as she presented the trio with Barnes and Noble gift certificates that were donated by Shiseido America, which is a skincare and fragrance company.
Upcoming events for the town’s library will be a book sale on April 26 at each location.
