A prom is a big event for everyone, including the 80 Manville senior citizens who attended Friday night’s annual Senior Citizen Prom, held in the Manville High School gym.
The night was sponsored by the school Key Club and Manville Municipal Alliance.
According to Key Club co-adviser Mary Papalski, “The kids did a wonderful job. They have gone above and beyond as always. Our group of Key Clubbers are just exceptional.”
The seniors and students danced the night away with music by DJ Bill Forke. There was a catered buffet dinner, and cake and coffee were served afterwards. Each of the ladies received a bouquet of fresh tulips.
MHS Key Club Vice President Haylee Furka said, “Last year there were a lot of people and this year we got a lot more and volunteers. It was a great turnout.”
Haylee said the Key Club set up, danced with the seniors and served dinner. “It feels good knowing that we are helping people in our community,” she said.
Student Ola Kaczor said she thought it went great. “Everyone is having fun and everyone is on the dance floor,” she said.
She liked the idea of students interacting with the senior citizens.
”I like seeing them happy and it just nice to know that they are having fun,” she said.
King and Queen of the prom were voted on by those in attendance and the honor went to Marilyn and Nick Trilone. They were crowned and enjoyed a dance together.
”It was exciting and was not expected,” said Mr. Trilone.
Joseph Patero, president of the Manville Senior Citizens, praised the organizers.
”I think this is wonderful for the students to give this to us. Everyone was having a good time. A lot of those moves are getting a little fast,” he laughed.
