SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Police and EMS workers were able to revive an unresponsive woman April 10, according to the department.
Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka recognized the quick actions of two South Brunswick Police Officers, South Brunswick EMS and paramedics in saving the life of the 26-year-old woman last Thursday.
According to police, at 11:48 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a woman had collapsed on a sidewalk off Henderson Road.
Within four minutes South Brunswick Officer Scott Bucca and South Brunswick EMS EMT Petra Krajnak and EMT Sean McLaughlin arrived to find the victim not breathing and without a heartbeat, police said.
The team worked together to perform CPR. Officer Joseph Rausch arrived and learned the victim had just used heroin moments before she collapsed, police said.
EMS and officers continued CPR for 20 minutes until paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital arrived on scene.
Police said the victim was in the rear of the ambulance when paramedics administered the drug Narcan.
According to the federal Food and Drug Administration’s website, Narcan is used to reverse the effects of an opium derivative overdose.
The victim almost immediately began to breath on her own and began to speak , asking what had happened.
Police said that she was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Chief Hayducka credited the fast response and quick action of the officers and EMS with saving the young woman’s life.
”This incident could have ended in tragedy if not for officers and EMS quickly starting CPR and paramedics administering the life saving drug quickly,” he said.
