The Middlesex County College (MCC) Dance Ensemble will present its 13th annual spring dance concert, “Impedimentum,” at 7 p.m. April 26 and 2 p.m. April 27.
Both performances will be held in the Performing Arts Center on the college’s Edison campus and are free, with a suggested donation of $5 per person.
“The dances presented are inspired by the ideas of either being burdened by difficulty or overcoming obstacles, hence the title of our show, ‘Impedimentum,’ which is Latin for obstacle,” said Aimee Mitacchione, artistic director of the ensemble and professor of dance at the college. “We are modern-dance-based, occasionally branching out to other dance genres, such as hip-hop, jazz, tap, contemporary and ballet. “This semester, the MCC Dance Team will be making a special guest appearance, showcasing a contemporary dance. Once again, our dancers are overjoyed to have professional guest choreographer Lees Hummel setting a piece here at MCC.”
Student and alumni choreographers include Lauren Braconi, Tabitha Edwards, Kayelynn Gonzalez, Rodney Green Jr., Amanda Guerra, Corinne Hughes, Melissa Hurst, Charles Jones, Melissa Langholff, Nikola Palivoda, Joisa Reyes and Asia Vaganek.
