A benefit for Ely Park
On April 12, under a glorious blue sky, more than 300 runners galloped through the heart of historic Lambertville and along the Delaware & Raritan Canal in the third annual Shad Run 5K and 1-Mile Health Walk.
All the race proceeds are dedicated to support the Friends of Ely Park’s effort to revitalize Lambertville’s park.
Lambertville’s Mayor David DelVecchio issued the signal to start the race to volunteers from Freedom House and from the general community lining the course.
Kaitlynn Zolnay, of Stockton, was the overall woman winner in 22:05. Second place went to Erin Durnin of Brooklyn, New York, 22:12. Third went to Lori Wyble of Lambertville, 22:56.
Alex Ochman, of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, led the entire field in the men’s race, winning in 17:53. Second place was taken by Kevin Radabough, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, in 20:30. Third went to Colm Quinn, of Lambertville, in 20:58.
This year’s race length was approved this year by USA Track & Field.
This year’s event had 41 business and family sponsors.
Friends of Ely Park founder, Jim Hamilton, said, “As always I am very grateful to the Stonekings for supporting our cause and also to the sponsors who stepped up big time this year.”
Prior to the issuing of awards a raffle was held in which numerous gifts provided by local businesses were provided to the winners.
Stoneking Physical Therapy and Wellness Center in Lambertville hosted the event. Owner Richard Stoneking said, “The Friends of Ely Park is a terrific cause to support. Not only does our effort make the park more visually appealing, but the renovated park promotes fitness in our community as well. We will continue to sponsor the Shad Run & Walk and dedicate the funds to the Friends of Ely Park for years to come.”
Hunterdon Healthcare and the Phillips-Barber Family Health Center served as the Premier Sponsor for this year’s Shad Run.
The Mile Marker Sponsors were The Bank of Princeton, Lisa James Otto and ShopRite of Flemington.
”It looks like we’ve netted about $10,000 for the event,” said Friends of Ely Park President Jim Mastrich, “ and we’re looking to put that right to work by building more columns and fencing in the park. We really appreciate Richard and Cindy Stoneking’s dedication to the community through our project.”
