Full compliance with list of rules is required

Almost yearly, for more than a half-century, Lambertville’s annual Sparkle Week has accomplished the dual goals of helping the city look better while transferring items that still may have a usable life from those who no longer want them to those who do.
Sparkle Week’s 2014 incarnation will be held during the first and second weeks of May.
Mayor David DelVecchio urged city residents to participate.
”Spanning more than 50 years, Sparkle Week has grown from just being a bulk-trash pickup into the ultimate recycling and ‘up-cycling’ event,” the mayor said.
Sparkle Week predates the1960s, when Lambertville residents would put out their bulk trash in events dubbed “Operation Sparkle.” Over time, it has become a community-wide event, with residents and visitors claiming discarded items that may still have usable life.
The city will partner with Goodwill to pick up and recycle electronics, furniture and other items in resale condition. Full compliance of the following list is required:
• No building construction debris (sheet rock, large pieces of wood, etc.); • No concrete, brick or block;
• No paints or oils of any kind; these may be taken to Hunterdon County’s Hazardous Clean-Up Day on July 13 or Nov. 9. See www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/solidwaste/cleanup.htm.
• Limit two car tires per household;
• Brush or tree branches must be separated and bundled, and
• Used clothing must be separated.
”As the old saying goes, ‘one man’s trash is another’s treasure,’” said Mayor DelVecchio. “By continuing our partnership with Goodwill, residents will have the knowledge that their unneeded things may find a second life in another home.”
Scheduled pick-up dates are:
• Residents whose garbage pick-up day is Tuesday or Wednesday may put items out to the curb on May 5 for pickup on May 6 or 7.
• Residents whose garbage pick-up is Thursday or Friday may put items out to the curb on May 14 for pickup on May 15 or 16.
The public works department will pick up trash on the regularly scheduled pick-up day for each zone. Do not place additional items to the curb once all other garbage has been collected.
