ROBBINSVILLE — The Robbinsville Economic Committee has seen the growth of the local small business community, and it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say the committee has contributed to that growth.
Two years ago the committee had about 10 people, and now approximately 100 people come to the Economic Development Committee meetings, including owners of home businesses, small businesses and large businesses, said Sheree McGowan, Robbinsville Council president, who attended a quarterly gathering hosted by the committee in Centro Grille on Route 33 on April 16.
”It’s a way for them to meet each other, talk, work out ways to work together,” she said. “It’s really come a long way.”
Dan Schuberth, president of the economic development committee, said the committee is made up of volunteers, and its main role is to advise the Township Council about economic development in the local community.
”Most of our efforts go toward supporting businesses already in town,” he said.
He mentioned of some new businesses in town such as FunniBonz BBQ Smokehouse, which opened in November and offers New Jersey style barbeque food, getting its products from Wegman’s and WholeFoods.
Sadie Cakes Cafe, another booming business in town, is a gourmet cupcake shop growing so fast that it had to move to a larger location, Mr. Schuberth said.
Adams Automotive, another growing business, works out of the Shell gas station on Route 130. Mr. Schuberth noted the business is one of many looking to revitalize the Route 130 corridor.
Tom Adams, owner of Adams Automotive, said he chose to move his business from Dayton to Robbinsville because of the great location.
”It just made perfect sense,” he said, adding that he likes coming to the committee meetings to meet other businesses in town, and see if they could help one another out.
Mr. Schuberth explained that since the Matrix business park is now filled, the focus is now on Town Center South, which will be another mixed-use development that is now under construction.
”Robbinsville has always been a town with good fiscal leadership,” he said, adding that it now has a AA+ Standard and Poor’s bond rating. “The township has had a good fiscal management team for a long time… and favorable taxes.”
He added that new businesses feel welcome when they come to Robbinsville.
”They kind of feel like they’re helping to build a community,” he said, adding that they give new businesses ribbon-cutting ceremonies and free advertisement on the township website. “That’s the leadership and Township Council and what this group does to help people fit in.”
