A brand new restaurant, the Kapadokya Mediterranean Grill on Route 1 in Monmouth Junction, had its grand opening on March 29.
It is located at 4049 oute.1 south and is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The restaurant offers a variety of Mediterranean cuisine which includes items such as falafels, gyros, kebabs, humus, stuffed grape leaves, baba ganush, eggplant salad, a variety of desserts including baklava, sobiyet and kadayif with special Turkish tea and coffee.
Owner Akin Bodur said that he came up with the Turkish name, Kapadokya, because he wanted to have a special and different name compared to the many similar names of Turkish restaurants.
”Kapadokya means underground cities in very ancient times in Turkey,” he said.
Mr. Bodur said he chose to open this restaurant in South Brunswick because he wanted to offer a healthy choice of food compared to the many nearby fast food chains.
He also said he wanted to offer something different and diverse for the South Brunswick community.
He said he plans to offer delivery and catering services in the near future and also plans on adding landscaping and a terrace to provide outside seating to the newly renovated building.
Restaurant patrons, Nancy Asher-Shultz and Mr. David Shultz of Kendall Park said they were both very happy to hear that there was a Mediterranean restaurant that opened up in South Brunswick.
Ms. Asher-Shultz said she heard about the new restaurant through a friend on social media.
”We had seen somebody actually post it on Facebook that they had been here and that the food was wonderful, and we love Mediterranean food,” she said. “We thought this is really local and we would give it a try. It was fun because we walk in and see other friends here so it was a good seal of approval.”
They ordered a spinach appetizer, a falafel and a gyro wrap and both said they were happy with all the dishes and the renovations and that they had an “excellent” experience.
Edward Febinger, of South Brunswick, another patron of the restaurant said he was very excited to have something different in town open up as he dined with his wife and two children.
”I drove past here, and I saw the signs and wanted to come,” he said. “I am very excited to have a Mediterranean restaurant here.”
He said they enjoyed having a “delicious” spinach appetizer and “really good” gyros and baklava.
”We will definitely be back, it was very nice,” he said. “Since the opening on March 29th, I haven’t had any complaints, a lot of people loved it, a lot of people have come back.”
