BRIDGEWATER: Somerset Patriots win two of three to open season

More than 7,000 attend year’s first game at TD Ballpark

   The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots, 6-3, before 5,105 fans at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater on Sunday afternoon to avoid the three-game sweep.
   The Patriots opened the season Friday night by defeating the Ducks, 3-2, on Jonny Tucker’s walk-off double in 15th inning in front of 7,080 fans at TD Bank Ballpark.
   The Patriots hammered out a 9-2 victory Saturday night. The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After Jonny Tucker doubled to lead off the game, Nate Spears singled him home. Luis Montanez followed with an RBI double to plate Spears and later scored on an RBI single by Ty Wright.
   On Sunday, the Ducks tied up the game in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Joash Brodin. They scored single runs in fourth, fifth and seven innings.
   The Patriots rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double by Robbie Widlansky and an RBI groundout by Damaso Espino to cut the lead to 4-3.
   The Ducks answered in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run single by Cody Puckett for the 6-3 final.
