EAST WINDSOR — A $200,000 grant will remain available to assist low and moderate-income homeowners correct damages to their homes, according to Mayor Janice Mironov in a recent statement.
The Township Housing Rehabilitation Program, which was awarded to the township back in February of last year, is funded by the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, and it allows homeowners to correct the existing interior and exterior health of their houses.
The grant also helps fix any safety and code violations that may have occurred, including replacement or substantial repair of roofs, foundations, heating and electrical systems, plumbing system components, lead based paint remediation, weather upgrades and /or structural repairs.
The program provides up to $15,000 in funding for qualified approved homeowners.
”This $200,000 grant has already assisted several township homeowners repair substandard systems and remedy conditions in disrepair such as windows, roofs and toilets,” said the mayor in a statement on the township’s website. “We are appreciative to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for supporting this community housing rehabilitation program, and I encourage eligible homeowners to take advantage of this valuable opportunity while program funds remain available.”
Funds are provided as a no interest deferred loan, with no monthly payments and no interest. The amount is not due or payable until sale or transfer of title and only for the exact amount.
There is no cost to apply.
