LAMBERTVILLE: Mother’s Day weekend event scheduled

It will champion adolescent girls and celebrate mothers

Kelly Sullivan, a painter and pioneer in the field of collaborative art, as well as a mother of two, will host a series of Mother’s Day weekend free events to champion adolescent girls and celebrate mothers.
Vibrant portraits and subtle landscapes have made Ms. Sullivan’s fine art pieces a staple in collector’s portfolios across the country. Recently, her oil painting of “Aiden,” her 17-year-old daughter, was juried into the Oil Painters of America (OPA) national exhibition.
The events from May 9 to 11 in her Lambertville studio, on the third floor of at 28 North Union St., will showcase traditional works in oil, a wine reception and preview, an art-card station for Mother’s Day cards and a hat-pin auction fundraiser for Sullivan’s Global Art Initiative for Adolescent Girls, Mighty Fingers Facing Change (MFFC).
A preview and reception for collectors and supporters of MFFC is May 9 from 6-9 p.m. Over hors d’oeuvres and wine, cellist Sam Haines and guitarist Michael Notarangelo will play.
MFFC is her global art project to empower adolescent girls through the arts. Launched at Rutgers University in conjunction with the Rutgers Future Scholars Program, and advised by Cheryl Dellasega, author of “Surviving Ophelia,” MFFC has connected girls from diverse pockets of the world since 2012.
After traveling to Guatemala, Canada, San Francisco, Wyoming, and Haiti, the Mighty Fingers Team (consisting of Ms. Sullivan, her daughter, Aiden, and videographer, Toni Tru) is preparing to travel to location number six – Uganda. There, they will be hosted by Pearl Community Empowerment Foundation (PCE), a grassroots national development registered NGO that promotes exchange of information and best practices and is currently operating in rural communities of Tororo and Buteleja districts, Eastern Uganda.
From 2-6 p.m. on May 10 and 11 will be the Lambertville FingerSmear, Hat Pin auction art bidding, card making station and special gift for all mothers.
The final hat pin auction ends at 5 p.m. May 11, when winners are drawn.
All proceeds from the Hat Pin Art Auction, The Card Making Station, and the Lambertville FingerSmear will benefit Mighty Fingers Facing Change.
