Students win awards at music festival

TINTON FALLS — The Upper School Chorus, Show Choir and Orchestra at Ranney School, under the direction of instructors Tess Nielsen, Dorothy Sobieski and John Doyle, recently traveled to Williamsburg, Va., for the Heritage Music Festival, which was held in April.

Students brought home several group awards. The students performed in competition with nine other high school music ensembles from across the nation. The Ranney Upper School Chorus and Ranney Upper School Show Choir each won a gold award, and the Ranney Upper School Orchestra earned a silver award.

Two students were honored with individual achievement awards. Junior Erik Bovino received the “Maestro Award” for his extraordinary accompaniment of the chorus and orchestra.

Senior Anthony Dennis received the “Ovation Award,” a new award this year given to only one festival participant upon nomination from the student’s instructor.
