EDITORIAL: Princeton has a new police chief

Police Chief Nicholas Sutter appears to be a man of few words, at least when publicly speaking, but one who can get things done.
The new chief was sworn into office this week amid heaps of praise for his work within the department and his character.
In return, he remarks were quite short, saying basically that he hopes to “meet and exceed” the expectations put on him regarding the public and the members of the department, many of whom were in attendance at the ceremony.
He has already shown that he can run things, having been the officer in charge for more than a year.
”Over the course of the past year, he has shown what kind of chief he’ll be,” said Mayor Liz Lempert.
Councilman Lance Liverman joined in, “I could not have asked for or supported a more worthy candidate for the position of chief of police than Capt. Nick Sutter.”
“He’s a professional, and he wants nothing but the best for his colleagues on the department and the residents to whom he and all of you serve,” said town Administrator Robert Bruschi.
His is one of the most important jobs in Princeton where the public is concerned.
His staff is about 50 officers and his department has the largest budget of any in municipal government.
So it is hoped that all this confidence in him is warranted. And thus far there has been no indication that it is not.
Plus, we can expect him to likely be around for quite a while. He’s only 43 years old.
