HAMILTON — A primary goal for the Hamilton West High School girl’s lacrosse program this spring was to earn first place in the newly formed Colonial Valley Conference Patriot Division. “The girls really want to win the Patriot Division title,” Hamilton West head coach Anthony Tessein said. “This year the CVC has grouped all of the newest lacrosse teams into one division and we believe with hard work and focus we can win the division.”
As we now move into the month of May, the Hornets are well on their way to reaching that achievement.
Hamilton West is in control of their own destiny in the division and appear to be on the way to a division championship.
Leading the way as key returning student-athletes to the varsity lineup for the Hornets this spring are Danielle Schneck (senior, midfield), Stephanie Sparano (senior, defense), Madison Uram (senior, attack/midfield), Justina Peoples (junior goal keeper) and LaShay Ross (junior, midfield).
Top newcomers to the varsity roster this year include Sam Courtney (sophomore, midfield/attack), Melissa May (sophomore, defense) and Marissa Reed (sophomore, defense).
”Stephanie Sparano, Danielle Schneck and Madison Uram were all selected as captains,” he said. “They have been on the team for four years each and have demonstrated great leadership in abilities on and off the field.”
Last season, Hamilton West finished with an overall record of 7-13. As of April 26, they had an overall record of 6-1, win an unbeaten mark in the Patriot Division.
The Hornets have three road games in its near future starting with a trip to Monroe on May 5, then onto Hightstown on May 10 and Nottingham on May 12.
Hamilton West may be looking forward to a pretty solid seed in the upcoming NJSIAA South Jersey Group III Sectional Tournament-a very challenging bracket which includes powerhouse teams such as Moorestown, Notre Dame, Clearview and Princeton.
Moorestown is considered one of, if not the top, teams in the state.
Hamilton West advanced to the South Jersey Group III Sectional Tournament last season as the No. 14 seed and they were defeated in the opening round by third seeded Clearview.
Moorestown would go on to defeat Notre Dame and win the 2013 South Jersey Group III title. Moorestown went on to win the Group III State championship last spring.
The Sectional Tournaments for girl’s lacrosse get underway across the state on May 14 and May 15.
