BRIDGEWATER: Somerset Patriots resign slugging first baseman

The Somerset Patriots have re-signed first baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve.
Martinez-Esteve was among the Atlantic League leaders in hitting throughout an All-Star 2013 season for Somerset. He finished with a .355 batting average, 93 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs, and 48 RBI in 77 games played.
Prior to joining the Patriots last season, Esteve had experience in the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners organizations, including six seasons at the Double-A level and one at the Triple-A level.
Esteve has a minor league career .301 average with 712 hits, 152 doubles, 11 triples, 47 home runs, and 699 RBI in 679 games played.
He played briefly for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League in 2012.
Martinez-Esteve joined the team on the road in Lancaster and was activated Saturday. To make room on the roster, the Patriots have placed infielder Steve Nikorak on the inactive list.
The Patriots will continue on the road until Tuesday, May 13, when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Camden Riversharks. For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
