Relay for Life is hoping to make history this year. Relay for Life of South River/Sayreville will hold its fourth annual event from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 17 at Denny Stadium at South River High School, 11 Montgomery St., South River.
Relay for Life is a community fundraising walk as well as a day to celebrate loved ones who have battled cancer and won, to remember loved ones who lost their battle to cancer and to fight back to create a world with less cancer.
The goal for this year is to join the Guinness Book of World Records by having more than 509 people simultaneously blowing out candles in honor of Relay for Life’s motto of “creating more birthdays” — thereby surpassing a record set last year in China.
Throughout the rest of the day, members of each team will walk around the track. Food, games and activities will also be provided.
More than 40 teams comprised of 600 participants and survivors typically raise $60,000 for the fight against cancer.
To be part of the event, visit www.relayforlife.org/southrivernj to create or join a team. Then, arrive by noon to participate in the singing of “Happy Birthday” at 12:30 p.m.
