– Magyar Bank to host paper-shredding days
Magyar Bank will hold Community Shred Day from 10 a.m. to noon on May 10 at the North Brunswick branch, 582 Milltown Road; and May 17 at the South Brunswick branch, 3050 State Route 27, Kendall Park.

– Poland’s Jewish revival will be subject of talk
Since the fall of communism, Poland’s small Jewish communities have undergone a significant revival, a process occurring in tandem with non-Jewish Poles’ soul-searching about their nation’s role in the Holocaust and the development of their interest in Jewish culture and in Poland’s Jewish past.
Professor Geneviève Zubrzycki, University of Michigan, will discuss this revival during a free discussion at 7:30 p.m. May 12 in the Douglass Campus Center, 100 George St., New Brunswick.

– Dining event to aid children with autism
The Rotary Club of South River-East Brunswick will host a Dine-to-Donate event to benefit children with autism 11 a.m.-9 p.m. May 13 at Applebee’s, 324 Ryders Lane, Milltown.
Diners should present an event flier to their server. The restaurant will then donate 10 percent of supporters’ bills to the cause. Proceeds will help the club assist children with autism and their parents within the community. Fliers are available by logging on to www.srebrotary.org.

– Heritage Day on tap at E.B. Senior Center
East Brunswick residents ages 60 and above are invited to the East Brunswick Department on Aging’s seventh annual Heritage Day set for noon-2 p.m. May 15 at the Senior Center, 3 Civic Center Drive.
The event is an opportunity to share the history, traditions and customs of East Brunswick seniors. In past years, participants have presented photos, clothing, food, artifacts, music and dance from their countries of origin.

– Tickets on sale for Pocketbook Bingo
The St. Thomas the Apostle School HSA will sponsor a Designer Pocketbook Bingo May 15 in the auditorium at the school, Route 18 south, Old Bridge. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Game-package cost is $25 in advance for six bingo sheets/three boards per game, and includes admission; package price is $30 at the door. – Sponsors, golfers sought for fundraiser
The Daniel Pearl Education Center (DPEC), an East Brunswick-based nonprofit, charitable organization that sponsors a range of community-outreach programs, will host its first Golf and Mahjong/Canasta Classic May 18 at the Cranbury Golf Club, West Windsor.
Organizers are seeking sponsors and participants. A number of platinum, gold, silver and bronze sponsorships, including meal and hole sponsorships, are available.
Golfers will compete for the classic championship and vie for prizes including an automobile for a hole-in-one. There also will be contests for longest drive and closest to the pin. A $150 golf fee will include greens fees, electric cart, locker-room facilities, lunch, beverages, dinner and awards.
The $30 mahjong/canasta fee includes an afternoon of games, plus lunch. Participants may join the golfers for dinner for an additional $30.
All proceeds from the event will support the DPEC’s commitment to the ideals of understanding and community — those principles that are part of the legacy of the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by extremists in Pakistan in 2002.
