May 10 walk to support military dogs, soldiers

The Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund and Middletown Lion’s Club are sponsoring the second annual K9 Sgt. Denny Dog Walk at 10 a.m. May 10, rain or shine, at the New Jersey Army National Guard Training Center, 5 Camp Drive, Sea Girt. Proceeds will support military working dogs and their handlers, and training and placement of service dogs for wounded warriors.

An opening ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. Demonstrations will be given by military and police dogs, and awards will be presented to dogs in various categories, including most patriotic costume, biggest, smallest, farthest traveled and most unique.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a donated item or two for dogs.

The walk is named for Sgt. Denny, a 2- year-old German shepherd and military working dog whose handler is Michael Brozowski, a Monmouth County native. Both were stationed in Afghanistan. Sgt. Denny can detect chemicals used to manufacture bombs and sniff out 123 different types of explosives.

Preregistration is $25 per dog or $30 on day of event. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
