Paint-your-own-sheep event set in Metuchen

Sheep on Show, a new community art event for all ages and skill levels, will take place 1-5 p.m. May 18 at the Franklin Schoolhouse, 491 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen.

The event will feature music by Celtic songstress Mary Shannon, a collaborative Yarn Bombing project (bring knitted bits to add), and a paint-your-own-sheep (PYOS) activity where participants will paint their own nearly life-size wooden sheep.

The sheep will then be put out to pasture (schoolhouse lawn) while they dry. At the end of the day, artists can take their sheep home.

PYOS fee is $20 per sheep, and includes materials. To download an idea template and reservation form, go to www.boroughimprovementleague.org. In addition, participants may bring their own materials (bling, stickers, fabric, etc.) and should wear something they don’t mind getting paint on.

The event is organized by the Borough Improvement League’s Transformations Gallery chairs with support from the Metuchen Arts Council.
