Shattered Glass to play in Freehold

FREEHOLD — The Downtown Concert Series, sponsored by St. Peter’s Church, will welcome the string ensemble Shattered Glass on May 10 to culminate the season’s series. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the historic church at 33 Throckmorton St., Freehold.

The program to be performed, “A Coney Island of the Mind: Pictures of America,” was inspired by one of the members of the string ensemble, violinist Karen Dekker, according to cellist Benjamin Larsen.

“A Coney Island of the Mind: Pictures of America” features a world premiere of a work by James Sheppard, Mark Dover soloing on Aaron Copland’s clarinet concerto, Ned Rorem and an arrangement of Ives, Larsen said.

Larsen said he believes the program is “an amazing collection of a repertoire that includes some of today’s foremost composers, as well as some emerging composers who will be known.”

A reception with the musicians will be held after the concert at Investors Bank, 21 W. Main St. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for individuals age 18 and under. Group rates are available. To purchase tickets, visit downtownconcertseries.org.
