Sponsors and golfers sought for fundraiser

The Daniel Pearl Education Center (DPEC), an East Brunswick-based nonprofit, charitable organization that sponsors a range of community-outreach programs, will host its first Golf and Mahjong/Canasta Classic May 18 at the Cranbury Golf Club, West Windsor.

Organizers are seeking sponsors and participants. A number of platinum, gold, silver and bronze sponsorships, including meal and hole sponsorships, are available.

Golfers will compete for the classic championship and vie for prizes including an automobile for a hole-in-one. There also will be contests for longest drive and closest to the pin. A $150 golf fee will include greens fees, electric cart, locker-room facilities, lunch, beverages, dinner and awards.

The $30 mahjong/canasta fee includes an afternoon of games, plus lunch. Participants may join the golfers for dinner for an additional $30.

All proceeds from the event will support the DPEC’s commitment to the ideals of understanding and community — those principles that are part of the legacy of the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by extremists in Pakistan in 2002.
