STOMP The Monster event set for June 1

MARLBORO — STOMP The Monster, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, will host its fourth annual 5K Run and Festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1 at the Marlboro Recreation Community Center, Wyncrest Road, Marlboro.

This will be a USATF-sanctioned event and Open Women’s Championship race on a certified course.

Festivities will include a 5K run, a 1- mile health walk, a beer garden and a DJ. Children’s activities include a youth race, arcade truck, glamour truck and bounce houses. Lunch and dessert will be provided by Jersey Mike’s and Fajii’s homemade ice cream, according to a press release.

In the past two years the STOMP The Monster 5K and Festival has raised more than $100,000, and this year the organization’s goal is to raise $120,000. Money generated by the fundraiser goes directly back to the community. Participants are encouraged to join a team to help raise money for those in need, according to the press release.

STOMP The Monster was founded in 2010 when Seth Grumet was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Grumet realized how much assistance he received and needed from his friends and families to help him handle everyday matters and to support him during this difficult time.

During chemotherapy, he met with many cancer patients and through conversation he noticed that many of them were not as fortunate as he was to have the help and support that was much needed to assist them during treatment. This is when STOMP The Monster was born.

“After missing the first two STOMP 5K events due to my own battle with cancer, I am really looking forward to completing the 3.1-mile run as a survivor along with so many survivors, friends, families, runners, walkers and supporters,” said Grumet, the founder of Stomp The Monster.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event and can be secured by contacting Stefanie Schneider at [email protected]. For more information about STOMP The Monster or to register for the 5K Run and Festival, visit www.stompthemonster.org.
