LAWRENCE: Education foundation awards $62,000 in grants

The Lawrence Township Education Foundation has awarded more than $62,000 in grants in support of 20 innovative programs throughout the Lawrence Township public school district.
The grants, awarded to teachers, will provide funding for projects and programs that are outside of the regular budget. They cover a broad range of disciplines, including science, math, character education, professional development, music and the arts.
All elementary schools will receive funding for a program for first-graders to expand and enhance their outdoor learning experiences through observation and discovery.
At Lawrence Intermediate School, students will be able to experience cutting edge STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education with a 3D printer.
Lawrence Middle School students also will have a chance to learn more about careers in STEM education by the addition of a 3D printer in the technology lab.
At Lawrence High School, there is money for an artist-in-residence program with the Philadelphia Shakespeare Company so that English and literature students may better understand drama through performance art.
