Letter writer’s intent, anger seemed misplaced

To the editor:
I feel certain that Jane Hamill, whose letter appeared in the Princeton Packet (April 29 ), was not offended by being scolded by Bonnie Bivins in a letter (May 9) for a general lack of understanding of the limited geographical area of news typically covered by a local paper.
As Ms. Hamill wrote, she had attended the service for the young victim in the Galilee Baptist Church in Trenton along with many people from Princeton and Lawrenceville who were moved by the tragedy. She was clearly upset that the Packet did not cover an event of such note for the communities it covers and wanted to underline the apparent "racial and class divide" between Trenton and Princeton.
It was a heartfelt appeal for greater understanding of all of our neighbors. It was not a criticism of the Packet, but a simple demand for more thoughtful coverage in the future.
Ms. Bivins’ anger seemed misplaced and heartless under the circumstances.
