Lions Help at Local Food Bank

By Katie DeMarco
On Saturday, May, 3rd, the U11 Lions team of the LHSA volunteered their morning at the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank in Ewing, NJ. The first Saturday of each month is open for volunteers to assist in sorting and/or repackaging donated food. As stated by Brian Peterson, Community Resource Liason for the food bank, “It was really amazing to witness the process of a volunteer team like the Lawrence Hamnett Soccer Association. The young athletes were presented with the challenge of repackaging bulk pasta and right away they assigned each other smaller tasks and worked together as a team. In less than three hours later, they were very proud to see their accomplishment n over a half ton of pasta was finished.” If you are interested in joining the Lions(boys born 8/1/2002 to 7/31/2003), our tryouts are May 20, May 22, and May 27 from 6-7:30pm at the Gordon Ave. entrance of Village Park. Other teams can be found at www.lawrencehamnett.com.
