The South Brunswick Girls Lacrosse Team made an amazing turn around to a season that was on the brink when they started the season 1-3.
The team rallied with relentless defense to go on a 14-game winning streak and capture the county conference regular season top spot for the sixth year in a row.
The winning streak included a GMC semi final win that gave Coach John Coppola his 100th victory in his seventh season as head coach.
South Brunswick’s season was built on a tough defense and teamwork.
In its Senior Night game, more then 150 people watched a seesaw battle with the number two team in the county, Old Bridge at Rowland Park. South Brunswick prevailed by a 8-7 score.
The Vikings beat East Brunswick in the GMC semi final 8-3 on Saturday, before falling one goal short in the championship game Monday night.
Defense was the cornerstone of the season, fortified by a shut down goalie Junior Lizzie Ruedemann. The junior is one of the top goalies in the county and made 145 saves.
The teams scoring power that pushed the team to victory was led by Senior Emily Ryan with 40 goals, Sophomore Caroline Hvozdovic with 37 goals, and Senior Miho Yamada with 33 goals.
