KIDS HELPING KIDS FIGHTING CANCER THROUGH THE LAUNCH OF THE FCCF CHARITY PIGS IN ACTION PROGRAM

By Andrea Inauen
The Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation (FCCF), www.fccf.info., has launched a PIGS IN ACTION PROGRAM to support and promote FCCF programs and fundraising activities. Ceramic piggy banks have been hand-painted by kids who have survived their own cancer battles to help raise awareness and funds for children currently fighting cancer and their families through the FCCF.
FCCF provides needs-based financial assistance to families struggling with pediatric cancer in New Jersey.  Since its formation in 1998, FCCF has helped hundreds of families to provide support when a parent’s income goes down or expenses go up as a result of their child’s cancer diagnosis.  FCCF is different than many other organizations in that it helps with the non-medical expenses that become a hardship for families when their child is sick.  Assistance includes, but is not limited to:  mortgage/rent expenses, utilities, transportation to and from the treatment center, food and unforeseen home costs that pose hardship for a family.
FCCF increased its financial assistance by nearly 30% in 2013 compared to 2012.  And, it is trending to give out even more in 2014. To manage this increased need, FCCF has launched the Pigs in Action program to increase awareness of the Foundation and generate greater support for families in crisis. The piggy banks are then placed in area diners and restaurants, gyms, schools, and offices to allow patrons to donate their loose change and dollars to area kids fighting cancer.
As Executive Director, Andrea Inauen, states, “These pigs are colorful, creative, and unique, just like each of the kids and families we help.  We are thrilled to promote a program that both helps FCCF help more families and allows kids to help other kids in the community.”  FCCF wants to be able to reach all those who are in need of support, and the Pigs in Action Program is an exciting way for everyone in the community to give to a child going through cancer treatment.
