Mrs. Schaefer, of Maryland, died May 10, 2014, from a sudden and severe illness. She was born in Freehold and raised in Aberdeen, but spent her last 16 years in Maryland, which she then called home. Denise attended Matawan Regional High School and did her undergraduate studies at Gettysburg College, majoring in mathematics and pledging Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She obtained her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, where she graduated with honors. She began her teaching career as a math teacher at Col. Zadok Magruder High School and then became a guidance counselor at Springbrook and Thomas S. Wooton high schools before returning to Magruder in the same capacity. She married the love of her life, Geoff Schaefer, in 2005 and gave birth to two beautiful daughters, Hailey and Katelyn. Denise was a marathon runner and coached high school softball and t-ball. She also enjoyed playing in a coed softball league. All who knew her will remember her engaging smile and fun-loving spirit. She is survived by her loving husband, Geoffrey Morgan Schaefer; her daughters, Hailey Morgan Schaefer and Katelyn Wilson Schaefer; her devoted parents, Marcia and John Wilson; sisters, Stephanie and Jessica Wilson; grandparents, Nancy Gordon and the late Irving Gordon, and the late Kate and John Wilson; uncle Alan (Betsy) Gordon and aunt Susan Darrow; in-laws, Nanci and Harry Schaefer; and brothers-in-law, Gregory (Robin) Schaefer and Aaron Schaefer. She will be forever remembered and deeply missed. Donations in her name can be made by googling “Go- FundMe Denise Schaefer” and then clicking on the posting by Gabe Ossi.
