Hopewell Township police Chief Lance Maloney reported:
— On May 29 at 7:40 p.m., Officer William Gaskill went to a wooded area behind the Pebble Creek Playground to check out a report of suspicious persons in the woods.
Upon arrival he found Nicholas Banks, 20, of Shrewsbury Court, Hopewell Township, and a 17-year-old Pennington boy in possession of marijuana and pipes used to smoke marijuana.
Both subjects were placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters, processed and released. Mr. Banks’ case will be heard in Municipal Court. The boy’s case will be heard in Family Court.
— On May 30 at approximately 10:53 p.m., Officer Alexis Mirra stopped a gray Hyundai on Route 31 near Route 518 for a motor vehicle violation. While speaking with the driver, identified as Paul F. Hargett, of Route 31, Glen Gardner, the officer suspected that Mr. Hargett was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and impaired.
After having Mr. Hargett perform roadside field sobriety testing, he was transported to police headquarters, processed and charged with speeding, DWI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was then lodged in the Mercer County Corrections Center. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
— On June 2, Officer Gaskill met with a victim on South Lanning Avenue in Hopewell Borough. The person reported the theft of two lop-eared rabbits ("easily recognized by their large, floppy ears," according to a website). The theft had occurred sometime during the previous 24 hours. One rabbit is described as a female with brown and white fur, weighing 6 pounds. The other is described as a male with brown fur weighing 4 pounds. The rabbits were taken from an enclosed pen located in the rear yard of the residence. The rabbits were estimated in value at $80.
. — On May 27, shortly after midnight, Officer Lincoln Karnoff went to investigate a noise complaint at a residence on Pennington-Harbourton Road.
During his investigation, he located Wyatt M. Enourato, 19, of Pennington Road, Pennington, and Sean C. Slattery, 19, of Williams Village, North Boulder, Colorado, in possession of alcohol while not being of legal age to do so. Both men were transported to police headquarters, processed and released after being charged with underage possession of alcohol. Their cases will be heard in Municipal Court.
— Officer Mandy Grey went to a two-car motor vehicle crash on Denow Road on June 1. An investigation found that Courtney Martin, 27, of Hillside Drive, Cherry Hill, who was driving a 2005 Honda Accord, pulled out of the Hopewell Crossing Shopping Center and struck a 2012 Mini-Cooper that had been traveling east on Denow Road.
Ms. Martin had the odor of alcohol on her breath and was placed under arrest after performing field sobriety tests. Ms. Martin was charged with DWI, reckless driving and failure to yield right of way. Ms. Martin was later released to a relative. Her case will be heard in Municipal Court.
— Officer Robert Voorhees saw a vehicle traveling along Federal City Road with an expired inspection sticker on June 3. The officer stopped the car and spoke with the driver, Chauncey Smith, 24, of Park Lane, Hamilton. Ms. Smith was found to have five active traffic warrants for her arrest out of Lawrence Township, Hamilton Township, Bordentown Township and North Brunswick.
Ms. Smith was charged with failure to inspect and driving while suspended. These charges will be heard in Municipal Court. Ms. Chauncey was later turned over to the Lawrence Township Police Department on their outstanding warrant.
— Officer Robert Sparano went to a Brewster Court address to check out an alarm activation on June 1. The officer arrived and found that a rear window to the house had been tampered with and damaged. No entry had been made to the home and nothing was reported missing. Detective Christopher Vaccarino is assisting with this investigation.
— Officer Mark Sherman II went to an East Stanford Road address to investigate a report of a burglary on June 5. Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., someone forced opened the front door and removed currency, jewelry and other items from the residence. The loss was estimated at $3,860. Detective Christopher Vaccarino is assisting with this investigation.
— Officer Karnoff went to a Henley Place address to check out a report of a burglary on June 5. Sometime between 8:50 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., someone forced opened the front door and removed jewelry from the home. The loss was estimated at $3,700. Detective Vaccarino is assisting with this investigation.
