Movie theater hearing postponed

HOWELL — Testimony on an application that proposes the construction of a movie theater at Route 9 north and West Farms Road was not heard at the June 5 meeting of the Howell Planning Board.

At the request of the applicant’s representative, the application was removed from the agenda and rescheduled for the board’s July 10 meeting.

The application was initially heard on May 1, when representatives of Alliance Management Co., LLC, began presenting testimony seeking preliminary and final site plan approval to construct a 14- screen, 58,000-square-foot movie theater on West Farms Road, east of Route 9.

The movie theater would be owned and operated by Xscape Theaters. The property is in a Highway Development 1 zone that is behind a Suburban Propane operation at the corner of Route 9 north and West Farms Road. The movie theater tract borders several homes on Fox Hill Drive.

According to the testimony presented May 1, the theater would have an entrance and exit on Route 9 north, and an entrance and exit on West Farms Road. The West Farms Road exit will have a left turn lane and a right turn lane onto the thoroughfare.

As described by the applicant, the complex would have a total of 1,640 seats and 413 parking spaces, with 12 parking spots designated for handicapped-accessible parking. Employee parking would be behind the building, according to the previous testimony.
