Crossbridge team wins division title

Their first season!

On June 22, the Crossbridge "age nine and under" (9u) baseball team completed its season by winning a divisional championship with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Monroe Falcons.
The Crossbridge team, which is made up of boys from Delaware Township, Lambertville, Stockton and West Amwell, finished the season with a 9-2 record. They competed this spring in the National West division of the United States Amateur Baseball League (USABL).
"We began working together as a team six months ago," said Crossbridge 9u head coach Pete Warms. "This ongoing commitment to the team concept got us through a hard-fought championship game against Monroe, with varying contributions coming from multiple players on both offense and defense."
This was the first season for the Crossbridge baseball program, which was established last fall to compliment local recreational baseball programs in the communities on both sides of the Delaware River, as well as to provide an opportunity for boys interested in playing competitive "travel" baseball.
There are Crossbridge teams for 8-, 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-year-old players. In addition to Lambertville, West Amwell, Delaware Township, and Stockton, boys from Upper Makefield, Solebury, and East Amwell also participated on Crossbridge teams.
Derrick Kraemer, director of the Crossbridge Baseball program, noted that four of the five Crossbridge teams finished with winning records this year.
"I would like to thank all parents, players and coaches who contributed to making our inaugural season an incredibly success," said Mr. Kraemer. "The effort that went into putting the teams together, coaching the teams, maintaining the fields, and expanding the snack shack to the Crossbridge program was a true community effort."
The Crossbridge Program will be offering summer "skill sessions" for all interested local ballplayers through the end of July. These sessions will be run by Cory Weingart and Frank Schermerhorn, the varsity baseball coaches at South Hunterdon Regional High School.
Sessions for boys 7-9 will be held from 6-8 p.m. on July 8, 15, 22, and 29. Sessions for boys 10-12 will be held from 6-8 p.m. July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31.
No preregistration, or previous participation in the Crossbridge program, is necessary; boys can just show up at Ely Field in Lambertville with a glove, helmet, bat, and something to drink. The cost is $20 per session.
