WEST AMWELL: Equipment purchased; audit gets top grade

By John Tredrea, Special Writer
The West Amwell Township Committee adopted ordinances on June 25 that will enable the township to buy a tractor, pickup truck and other equipment for use by township work crews.
A bond ordinance authorizes appropriation of $280,000 to buy a Case International tractor and International truck and other equipment. A $266,000 bond issuance and $14,000 in down payments by the township will cover these purchases.
The township can withdraw $35,000 from its capital improvement fund to buy a 2015 Ford F350 four-wheel-drive pickup truck.
A synopsis of the 2013 audit of the township has been posted on the municipal website. The summary indicates that the township’s finances are in excellent shape. The audit contained only one minor recommendation, which was that the township’s public assistance fund be closed and that money in the fund be transferred to the current fund.
State law requires that all municipalities be audited annually. Complete copies of the 2013 audit are available at the municipal building.
The township has scheduled four more "cleanup days" this year, when residents may dispose of unwanted bulky waste items at the township public works facility. Those dates are July 26, Aug. 30, Sept. 27 and Oct. 25.
The fee for cleanup day is $30. Permits can be purchased at the township clerk’s office. Only cars or pickup trucks can bring items to clean up day. Larger vehicles are not permitted. Not accepted during cleanup days are paint, household trash, animal carcasses, hazardous waste, gasoline, concrete, rocks, trees or earth.
