NEW BRUNSWICK — North Brunswick Township High School teacher, and Kendall Park resident, Cara Conroy, 33, pled guilty June 27 to having an inappropriate conversation with a 14-year-old male student in March, officials said.
According to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, Ms. Conroy, a special education teacher at the high school, admitted a count of endangering the welfare of the child, saying she engaged in the sexually-explicit conversation with the student on March 5.
The guilty plea was entered during a hearing in New Brunswick before Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone, according to the release
Police said that Ms. Conroy allegedly talked online with a 14-year-old boy about engaging in sexual acts with each other on March 5.
The boy was not a special education student, according to police.
Ms. Conroy was arrested the next day and charged following an investigation by North Brunswick Detective Mike Braun and Middlesex County Investigator Melissa Terpanick.
According to police, the boy’s mother learned about the online conversation and contacted authorities.
Ms. Conroy, who was suspended without pay since her arrest, worked for the North Brunswick School District since Sept. 1, 2005. According to the high school’s website, she worked as a teacher in the school’s Learning Center.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Ms. Conroy will be placed under parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a Megan’s Law sex offender.
She also will surrender her teaching license and will be forever banned from holding a public job in New Jersey, according to the release.
The agreement was reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Christine D’Elia, and sentencing has been scheduled for Sept. 5, according to the release.
