The Somerset Hills Kennel Club, one of New Jersey’s oldest and most active dog clubs, continues its long-standing tradition of supporting the health and welfare of man’s – and woman’s – best friend.
While kennel clubs are generally not-for-profit organizations, they need to cover expenses to stay in operation. They do so by sponsoring competitive events for dog fanciers. As a result of good management and hard work dedicated to these events over several years, Somerset Hills Kennel Club was recently able to proudly donate $10,000 to eight different organizations.
– Petsmart Promise – $1,000
A national partnership between Family Promise and PetSmart, Inc. providing kennel facilities for the pets of homeless families.
– War Dog Association – $1,000
An association honoring our nation’s war dogs and their handlers: past, present & future.
– Friends of Somerset County Animal Shelter _ $1,000
A nonprofit organization, providing volunteer & financial support for animals provided protection by Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.
– AKC Canine Health Foundation – $1,000
A nonprofit dedicated to helping dogs and their owners live longer, healthier lives.
– Take the Lead – $2,000
A not-for-profit foundation dedicated to provide direct services, support and care for all qualified participants in the sport of dogs who suffer from the devastating realities of life-threatening or terminal illnesses.
– SHKC Goldstein Veterinarian Scholarship – $1,000
In honor of past member Bob Goldstein, the Somerset Hills Kennel Club contributes annually to this scholarship offered to residents of New Jersey who are enrolled in the study of veterinary medicine.
– AKC Government Relations Canine Legislative Support – $500
The AKC Government Relations Department is dedicated to protecting the rights of all dog owners, promoting responsible dog ownership and ensuring that laws governing dog ownership and breeding are reasonable, enforceable and non-discriminatory.
– County Animal Response Trailer – $2,500
The SHKC has allocated funds toward the obtainment of a disaster relief trailer thru the American Kennel Club Reunite’s program. These trailers are filled with everything needed to quickly set up temporary animal shelters and veterinary clinics during an emergency.
The Somerset Hills Kennel Club gratefully acknowledges the support it receives from its members and the dog community including its annual show sponsor Purina. They all help make it possible to continue this good work.
