SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A Monday afternoon crash seriously injured a 30-year-old Hightstown man, police said.
At 4:25 p.m. South Brunswick Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Herrod Boulevard and Stults Road.
The crash took place when a 30-year-old warehouse worker from Hightstown was driving a 1997 Toyota south on Herrod Boulevard.
His vehicle was struck by a 2014 Chrysler minivan being driven by a 45-year-old man from Indianapolis, Indiana that was headed west on Stults Road, police said.
According to police, the Hightstown man was trapped in his vehicle for 30 minutes while members of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department worked to free him.
South Brunswick EMS and paramedics initially treated the seriously injured victim at the scene.
A New Jersey State Police helicopter then landed at the crash location and transported the victim to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he remained in serious condition Monday.
Police have not released the name of either driver in the accident.
The crash is under investigation by South Brunswick Traffic Safety Bureau Officer Frank Mongalieri.
Traffic was diverted from the accident scene for over an hour, which caused extensive delays near Exit 8A of the New Jersey Turnpike, police said.
