180 Turning Lives Around, Inc., is pleased to announce another year of partnership with the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club (AHYC) as they host their 10th annual Ms. Race in Atlantic Highlands on Aug. 16 at 2 p.m.
Launched in 2005 by a group of female sailors, the AHYC Ms. Race is a charitable event that donates proceeds directly to 180 Turning Lives Around Inc., a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault in our community.
The Central Jersey Braves will hold open tryouts for players interested in joining the area’s premier developmental travel baseball program.
Open tryouts will be held at Byron Johnson Park in Upper Freehold on July 2, 8 and 9. Players need to attend only one tryout session.
Brad Brach picked up his first win with the Baltimore Orioles when he pitched two scoreless innings in relief and the Orioles rallied in the bottom of the ninth on Chris Davis’ pinch hit three-run home run to defeat the Chicago White Sox, 5-4, on June 23.
Brach, a right-hander, was drafted by the San Diego Padres out of Monmouth University, and he pitched for the Padres from 2011-13 before being released last year. The Orioles signed Brach, and he has appeared in 11 games, pitching to a 3.79 ERA in 19 innings of work.
Brach starred for Freehold Township High School, leading the Patriots to a Shore Conference A North Division title and a berth in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV championship game. At Monmouth, Brach set several school records and was the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year.
Another ex-Patriots star, Brandon Coluccio, is also in the Orioles organization. The catcher/designated hitter signed as a free agent with Baltimore and is playing for the Aberdeen Iron Birds in Class A ball.
Coluccio went to Brookdale Community College following his high school career and played for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he was an All-Conference player the last two years before signing with the Orioles at the end of June.
