Tent Colony Tour slated for July 29

The Historical Society of Ocean Grove is sponsoring a Tent Colony Tour on July 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. Proceeds will benefit the Together Fund for the restoration of Thornley Chapel.

Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as a religious camp meeting ground where people brought tents and furniture for a vacation. At one time, over 700 tents and tent cottages were on the grounds. Today, only 114 tents remain, which are rented and occupied from May 15 to Sept. 15. Each tent is decorated and furnished differently.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Historical Society’s museum at 50 Pitman Ave. For more information, call 732- 774-1869.
