HILLSBOROUGH: College graduates share news of their achievement

Christopher Melillo of Hillsborough, graduated from Widener University in Chester, Pa., in May with a bachelor of science degree in management.
Widener held commencement ceremonies on May 16 and 17 for graduate and undergraduate students recognizing those who successfully completed their studies and all necessary requirements for graduation during the summer 2013, fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters.

Matthew was awarded a bachelor of science degree in robotics engineering with distinction.
A total of 794 bachelor’s degrees, 381 master’s and 18 PhDs were awarded, in addition to the 381 degrees awarded earlier this academic year.
Keynote speaker was Bernard Amadei, founder of Engineers Without Borders.
— Yu-Shen Lin of Hillsborough graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the Honors College of Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
The university conferred 2,381 degrees to students during its three spring commencement ceremonies May 16.
A total of 1,784 bachelor’s degrees, 553 master’s degrees, four specialist degrees and 40 doctorate degrees were conferred. Beyond the standard expectations, 174 students were recognized for their work with a more rigorous curriculum in Missouri State’s Honors College.
— Jessica Anne Griswold of Hillsborough received a bachelor of science degree magna cum laude May 11, 2014, from the University of Richmond (Va.). She majored in chemistry and minored in business.
Jessica received departmental honors and the American Institute of Chemists Award for excellence in chemistry. She is a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Golden Key International Honour Society, Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society and Sigma Pi Pi chemistry honor society. She received the Cole Memorial Scholarship.
She was a chemistry research fellow with Dr. Raymond Dominey and Dr. Emma Goldman and served as a chemistry lab teaching assistant and senior class gift committee co-chair. She also was varsity cheerleading captain, a campus tour guide and a member services specialist for the university’s Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness. She served as social chairman and Panhellenic delegate for Delta Delta Delta sorority.
She plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry. Jessica is the daughter of Joseph and Beth Griswold.
