Police blotter, June 24-30
A caller at 8:46 a.m. June 23 said the rubber shop on the street has grinding machine that constantly makes a lot of noise. Police said they could her the machine on the call while the caller was indoors. The noise stopped, but 35 minutes later, the same caller said it had started again. The Board of Health was notified.
— A Manville woman came into headquarters at 5:52 p.m. June 23 to report a suspicious incident. She said she posted a dryer for sale on Craigslist for $100 and she received a response from "James" who sent a check for $2,100 and said to send the $2,000 difference to an Austin, Texas, address. She was advised it was a scam.
— A 17-year-old from Manville was charged with shoplifting items valued at $3.88 at 7:19 p.m. June 23 from Walmart on North Main Street. The teen was turned over to the mother.
— A 55-year-old man called police at 8:32 p.m. June 23 and said his windows were covered with paper by contractors, cutting off air flow. The landlord came, spoke with the man and the paper was removed.
— Two men were charged at 9 a.m. June 24 with trespass at Benjamin Street and Boesel Avenue. Donald McBride, 51, and Roy Montgomery, 59, both of Manville, were charged, processed and released. A 1998 maroon Ford was towed for being on the property without permission.
— An Adesa Auto Auction employee said at 12:05 p.m. June 25 that a Snap-On diagnostics scanner valued at $5,380 had been stolen between June 20 and 23. The item was entered into national crime records.
— Omar Adams, 33 of Bridgewater was charged with driving under the influence following a motor vehicle collision at 3 p.m. June 25 on St. John Street. He was taken to the hospital with an injury.
— Three women in a Honda Civic were said to be spraying people with perfume at 9 p.m. June 25 at QuickChek on Brooks Boulevard. Patrols didn’t find anyone, and no problems were reported in the store.
— Taumsnee Crain, 26, of Manville was charged with disorderly conduct while he was at Dunkin’ Donuts on South Main Street at 12:43 a.m. June 26. He was lodged in Somerset County Jail in default of bail.
— Nicole Bruno, 45, of Manville was charged at 3:40 p.m. June 26 with breaking into people’s cars at Foxtail’s Lounge on South Street. She was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, one count of theft in third degree and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance. She was lodged in the county jail.
— A hypodermic needle was found on the ground at South Street and South 3rd Avenue at 8:48 p.m. June 26 and turned in for destruction.
— A woman Brittany Bonilla, 17, came to headquarters at about 3 p.m. June 27 to report she had lost her silver Michael Kohrs wallet inside Walmart at about 1 p.m. She said numerous cards, $5 in cash and her mother’s social security card. She was advised to contact credit card companies to deactivate.
— Tadas B. Satkunas, 20, of Hillsborough was charged with shoplifting merchandise worth $27.26 from Walmart at 4:30 p.m. June 27. He was released after paperwork was completed.
— Jorge Tavares, 28, of Manville was charged with criminal mischief for knocking over and damaging a motorcycle on Gladys Avenue at 6:09 p.m. June 27. He was given a summons and taken to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset. The next night at 8:14 he was charged with disorderly conduct on the same street and again taken to the hospital.
— A South Main Street woman reported at 901 p.m. June 28 that her front license plate was missing from her 2005 Dodge Ram. She was advised to turn the remaining plate into the Motor Vehicle Commission.
— A South 10th Avenue caller at 4:34 p.m. June 29 said her son’s metal canoe was missing from the side yard. Patrols said the canoe was found along the railroad tracks along the caller’s yard and returned.
— A 7-year-old girl from Manville was hit by a car at 7:11p.m. June 29 at South 4th Avenue and West Camplain Road. The vehicle was still on scene. The rescue squad canceled the call for advanced care squad.
— Rescue squad chief David Kohler said he found two empty glassine bags on the ground in front of the bay doors at the squad building at South 3rd Avenue at 7:31 p.m. Sunday. Patrols recovered two small white empty glassine bags labeled "Crazy Samurai" from the garage apron. The bags were returned to headquarters and destroyed.
— Firefighters fought a Dumpster blaze next to Manville Pizza on South Main Street at about 1 a.m. Monday. There was no damage to the building.
