To the editor:
My husband, Gary Zackeru, passed away on June 21 after a 13-month courageous battle with ALS. During this time, our friends and family also became the most courageous people I know.
Endless amounts of time, as well as effortless heroism were bestowed upon me and my children. . . all to make sure that we were OK and that Gary had a good quality of life — with all the trimmings!
To thank everyone individually will probably take a lifetime. However, I cannot pass up an opportunity to express one last public note of thanks to this wonderful community and my dear friends and family for their unconditional love and support.
Fundraisers, Guys Night Out, a meal chain, baseball games and many impromptu get-togethers were just a few acts of kindness that brought each new day with a glimmer of hope not to give up and the desire for Gary to live life to its fullest — and that he did.
With sincere appreciation and gratitude,
Paula, Will and Kyle Zackeru
