As has been the case for months, the Hunterdon County Tricentennial Committee has scheduled many events for July and, once again, several of those events sold out quickly.
One of the July events for which tickets are still available is a talk on Hunterdon’s early settlers in Holland Township. It’s scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Riegel Ridge Community Center in Milford. Historian Robert Peabody will focus on the writings of Squire Jesse Sinclair, whose work appeared in the Milford Leader newspaper in the 19th century.
Three free concerts under the stars are on the busy July calendar of Hunterdon County’s ongoing Tricentennial celebration.
The concerts are set for Deer Path Park in Readington Township. On July 17, Tracy Lee and the Ravine Road Band will perform at the park. Onstage on July 24 will be The Jersey Shades. On July 31, it’ll be a night at the opera.
Also on the July schedule:
"True Jersey Blues: Army Enlistment In 1862" will tell the story of the soldiers who were enlisted from the grounds where the old Flemington Fair and Race Track once were. The presenter is Dominick Mazzagetti, historian and author of the book by the same title.
The event is Tuesday, July 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the North Branch of the County Library, 65 Halstead St., Clinton Town. Registration ends July 22 at 6 p.m.
"Industrial Archeology in Hunterdon" will be explored in a lecture Saturday, July 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the upstairs conference room of the Red Mill in Clinton Town. Using real artifacts as examples from early industry in Hunterdon, Red Mill Museum President Paul Muir will discuss the history of mills and other local industries.
This event is limited to 60 people. Holcombe-Jimison farm north of Lambertville will hold a "Festival of Farming" on Sunday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crafters will demonstrate the everyday existence skills of the 1700-1800s.
They include blacksmithing, basket making, colonial outdoor cooking, rug hooking, lace making, hand quilting, wool spinning, chair canning, bee keeping, coopering buckets, rope twisting and growing a herb garden. draft horse field exhibition, weather permitting, from noon to 4p m. and field mowing and "big pony" draft horse rides for adults and children.

"The best way for people to find out about upcoming events is to sign up for our Blog or other social media on the home page of our website, http://www.hunterdon300th.org," said tricentennial chairperson Marcia Karrow. "If they don’t want to do that, they can monitor our website daily to see when tickets become available, but there is advance notice via social media and it is the best way to find out about all of our events plus special things that will be happening."
Ms. Karrow added: "If people don’t have email, we do hold back a small percentage of tickets for walk ins to our headquarters, The Flemington Choir School (3 Chorister Place, Flemington) — which is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m."
