– Library offering free classes for job seekers
The Career Information Center at the Eastern Branch Library at 1001 Route 35 in Shrewsbury will hold a series of 10 classes, “Computer Skills for Job Hunters,” during July.
The classes will introduce job hunters to computer skills and online job-search resources. Each one-hour class will begin at 2:30 p.m. The classes are free, but registration is required by calling the library at 866-941-8188. Participants can register for as many classes as they like.
Classes include the following:
• “Introduction to Job Searching with www.indeed.com” July 10. Learn about online job searches.
• “Exploring Careers with Occupational Outlook Handbook and CareerInfoNet” July 11. See how the handbook describes jobs, necessary training, job outlook and salaries and how CareerInfoNet offers this information on county and state levels.
• “My Next Move” July 14. Learn about this combination job website, which includes Career Choice options, job listings and a business directory.
• “ReferenceUSA” July 15. Search this business directory by location, industry or size to find potential employers.
• “Jobs4Jersey: The Job Search Tool of the NJ Department of Labor” July 16. Write a résumé and search for jobs using this resource.
• “Job and Career Accelerator” July 17. Sponsored by the New Jersey State Library, learn how to use the résumé maker and store different résumés using various file formats.
• “Introduction To LinkedIn” July 18. Create an online presence to have employers or recruiters contact you. Discover how to network at targeted companies and join interest groups to grow your professional social network.

– Library has programs for kids, adults in July

• “English Conversation Classes” will be held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. July 16, 23 and 30. Learn English to help you at work, home and in the community. Meet and speak with others who are learning English. All classes are free.
• “Anime” for children entering sixth grade and up will be held 4:30 p.m. July 17. Anime is a Japanese style of drawing, often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastic themes. Mina Sanwald, an illustrator and animator based in New York, will teach different techniques to draw anime characters. Registration is required.
• “Forks and Fears: Eat Healthfully and Enjoy It!” will be at 11 a.m. July 18. This presentation will explain how to dine out without worrying about your diet. Presenters will discuss real-life dining scenarios and easy methods to stay on track with a health regimen.
• “Common Scents: An Introduction to Aromatherapy” will be at 6:30 p.m. July 21. Discover how essential oils are used to maintain health and reduce stress with Gina Melillo, a registered nurse and certified aromatherapist.
• “Polymer Clay” for children entering sixth grade and up will be at 5:30 p.m. July 23. Create miniature polymer clay figures and charms. Registration is required.

– Jersey Shore Celtic Festival set for July
The Pipes and Drums of Barnegat Bay band will sponsor the Jersey Shore Celtic Festival 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 12 at Christ Episcopal Church, 415 Washington St., Toms River.
The festival will feature over 50 drummers and pipers playing in the morning and 13 bagpipe bands competing in the afternoon.
There will also be a Gaelic Celtic Mass, children’s activities, musical entertainment and vendors. Open spots are still available for the haggis-eating contest.

– Free mental health screenings on July 16
Mental health professionals from the Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Center will offer a variety of free, confidential mental-health screenings 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 16 at the Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Center, 1691 Route 9, Toms River.
Screenings for depression, anxiety, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder will be offered. These screenings are open to the public and designed to educate individuals about the signs and symptoms of mental-health issues.

– Mental health group’s benefit dinner July 18
CPC Behavioral Healthcare’s annual summer benefit dinner, “Passport Around the World,” will be held 7 p.m. on Friday, July 18, at the Navesink Country Club, 50 Luffburrow Lane, Middletown.
This year, the benefit will celebrate the contributions of Geoff Sadwith of Ocean, Pat Geiss of Little Silver and Travelsavers of Oyster Bay, N.Y.
Sadwith will be the inaugural recipient of CPC’s Chairman’s Award. Geiss will receive CPC’s Humanitarian Award, and Travelsavers will receive CPC’s Corporate Good Neighbor Award. The honorees are widely regarded for their exemplary support of the community through gifts, grants, volunteer activities and a consistent, genuine interest in the overall health, strength and well-being of those who live and work in Monmouth County.
CPC Behavioral Healthcare in Eatontown hosts several events each year to raise funds in support of its mission to provide mental health care to Monmouth County residents who cannot afford it. Last year, CPC served more than 8,000 people in Monmouth County, with a variety of behavioral health services.

– Talk on historic Shore impressions July 17
The Little Silver Public Library will host author Margaret Buchholz, who will present, “Down the Jersey Shore,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, at 484 Prospect Ave.
Buchholz will also discuss her book, “Shore Chronicles,” which is a collection of 50 accounts of visits to the Jersey Shore between 1764 and 1955. The book includes writings by well-known figures, such as John J. Audubon, Walt Whitman, Robert Louis Stevenson, Stephen Crane and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the impressions of ordinary people who have traveled along New Jersey’s 127-mile coastline.

– Red Bank offering summer camp for kids
Red Bank’s Parks and Recreation Department is offering various summer camp programs for children age 3-16 beginning July 14.
The Red Bank Runts program for children age 3-5 will run from July 14 through Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 51 Monmouth St. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The cost is $75 per week for residents and $100 for nonresidents. The program will include educational activities, swimming lessons, sports, arts and crafts and trips.
The Red Bank Rascals program for children age 6-11 will run from July 14 through Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Count Basie Field. The cost is $80 per week for residents and $100 for nonresidents. The program will include swimming, paddle boating and trips to the beach, various theme parks and the Liberty Science Center. Space is limited.
The Red Bank Rumblers for children age 12-16 will run from July 14 through Aug. 8, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Count Basie Field. The cost is $100 per week for residents and $125 for nonresidents. The program will include several trips to places such as the beach, Medieval Times, Six Flags Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor, New York City, Madame Tussaud’s wax museum and more. Space is limited.
Financial assistance and payment arrangements are available to Red Bank residents in need. All trips are tentative and subject to change.

• The “Fizz, Boom, READ!” summer reading program for children age 3-12 will run throughout the summer, with a grand Summer Reading Finale Party at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. The reading program has a science theme.
• A “Super Duper Science Blow Out” for children age 3 and up will be at 3 p.m. July 18. Enjoy science-themed projects, crafts, activities, treats and fun. The program is free, but registration is required.
• “Move Time!” for children age 5 and up will be at 6 p.m. July 24. Enjoy a fun family movie and snack. The program is free, but registration is required.
• “Storytime” for young children with a caregiver will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays in the Avice Noblett Children’s Room. Enjoy quick stories, musical activities and a craft.
• “Conversational English” classes for adults 18 and over will be offered on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. through Aug. 21. The classes are free and led by volunteers trained by Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County. Practice speaking with others who are also learning English.
• “Yoga for Adults” is held on Fridays from 1-2 p.m. The free class is appropriate for all levels of yoga experience. Bring a yoga mat. Up to 20 participants can attend on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Board of Trustees of the Red Bank Public Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, at the library. These meetings are open to the public.

– Vacation Bible School, youth clubs at church
Pilgrim Baptist Church of Red Bank is sponsoring its annual Community Vacation Bible School and Summer Youth Enrichment Clubs at 172 Shrewsbury Ave.
Vacation Bible School for children in grades pre-K through fifth will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. July 14-18.
Summer Youth Enrichment Clubs for students in grades 6-12 will be held from 6-9:30 p.m. July 21-25.
Both programs will offer children biblical, practical, recreational and social skills development activities that are designed to enrich the life experiences for all participants. The programs are free, but registration is required. Meals, materials and T-shirts are included.
