A cooperative effort by detectives from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Asbury Park Police Department has resulted in the arrest of an individual who has been charged with killing an Asbury Park man in April, Monmouth County Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced.
Jacquil Jones, 25, of Farmingdale, was arrested July 2 with the assistance of the New Jersey State Police and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and seconddegree unlawful possession of a weapon, in connection with the April 10 death of Jermaine Huntley, 28, of Asbury Park.
Jones is being held in the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, on $1.2 million cash-only bail, as set by state Superior Court Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen.
According to the prosecutor’s office, on April 10 at about 9:49 a.m., Neptune Township police were dispatched to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, on a report of a gunshot victim who was driven to the hospital by a friend. The individual was identified as Huntley. He died from his wounds at 10:28 a.m.
A joint investigation by the prosecutor’s office and the Asbury Park Police Department was launched after learning that the victim was shot in the 1200 block of Washington Avenue in Asbury Park.
During the investigation, police determined Jones was driving in a motor vehicle on Washington Avenue when he came upon Huntley and allegedly fired a single gunshot, which struck and ultimately killed him. Authorities said Jones fled the scene in his vehicle.
